Is the US Bank Cash+ worth it?
MoneyRoom Card Score
8.0/ 10
For the optimizer who genuinely re-elects every quarter, it's one of the strongest free cards in America; for everyone else it's the 1.0% floor our engine prints. No card we score has a wider gap between those two truths.
Data: MoneyRoom verified card catalog · scores recompute daily
The Cash+ is the maximalist version of elective earning: famously large rates on categories you select each quarter, from a menu deeper than any competitor's. It's also the purest test of our conditions-never-count rule — elections expire quarterly, must be re-confirmed, and cap out, which is three separate conditions stacked — so the engine prices the unconditional remainder: 1.0% effective, headline 8.0 on the strength of the no-fee, no-ledger profile alone.
We're explicit about what that number is: the floor for the holder who forgets. The quarterly re-elector who aims the big rates at genuine spending operates one of the best value engines in the free tier, far above this page. Our score will never average those two people, because averaging them describes neither.
The ledger
No fee — the ledger starts at zero.
Typical value applies our published realization factors: the discount for expiry windows, spending restrictions, enrollments, and reimbursement delays a real cardholder faces.
This card has no recurring statement credits. There's nothing to enroll in, track, or forfeit — the ledger is empty by design.
The fine print that matters
Why is typical value less than face value?
Three stacked mechanics create the breakage the design depends on: elections lapse if not re-confirmed each quarter (lapsed categories earn base), the headline tiers carry quarterly caps, and the biggest rates live on narrower categories than the brochure's font size suggests. The counter-strategy is a calendar reminder and honest category selection; the countervailing fact is that most holders set neither, which is exactly the gap between the marketing and this page.
Earning
What does everyday spending actually earn?
Rewards post as cash back, worth exactly face value. On our published reference basket the effective rate is 1.0%.

Honest gaps
What does the score leave out?
- The elected quarterly rates. The largest conditional rates in our published set — real wealth for the diligent, structurally invisible to an engine that books only guarantees.
- The category menu's depth. Utilities and niche lines few cards bonus at all — the menu is the moat, and it's entirely elective.
- The welcome offer. One-time; excluded on principle.

Questions
Asked before applying.
How can a famous rewards card score at base?
Every one of its headline rates requires quarterly re-election and lives under a cap — conditions stacked on conditions. Our engine's uniform rule prices the guarantee: 1.0%.
What's it worth to a disciplined quarterly player?
Far more than this page — aimed well, the elected tiers make it arguably the strongest free card in the country. That's a statement about your calendar discipline, which is precisely what no honest score can assume.
What does it score as printed?
8.0 out of 10 — ceiling value and effort, earning 3.3. The floor, published without apology, with the ceiling explained beside it.
